Top & Effective Ways to Increase Employee Productivity in the Workplace

One of the most important components of a company is its employees – productive employees make a company successful. Employee productivity also said to be workplace productivity, is the measure of an individual employee’s output.

Importance of Employee Productivity

Mr. Tribhuvan Darbari MD & CEO Texmaco Defence Systems, Chief Executive Texmaco Rail & Engineering & Board Director – Simon India (Adventz Group) focuses on the importance of employee productivity at the workplace.

Every company wants to grow and become successful. Employee productivity can make or break the success of a company. Mr. TS Darbari also mentioned that productivity and effectiveness are the two factors that determine whether employees are successful at their work. You should always make the most out of both your productivity and your effectiveness. It aims to put maximum effort into work and finish as much work as you can in a short amount of time.

If employees are productive, the business:

  • Tends to grow
  • Becomes more profitable
  • Meets consumer demand
  • Remains competitive

How to Increase Employee Productivity in the Workplace

To increase employee productivity in the workplace, you should implement the 8 following steps:

  1. Improve Workplace Conditions

Make sure there’s plenty of natural light in the office. Employees who work in an office with windows and enough natural light are more rested and more likely to focus at their work. Green offices make employees more comfortable, and thus more productive with their work.

  • Allow Flexible Schedules

Different people have different productivity prime times during the day – so, sticking to a strict 9-to-5 schedule may not work for everyone.

  • Flexibility in Working Hours

Instead of working 8 continuous hours per day, provide flexibility to your employees working in two smaller time blocks that together equal 8 hours. They’ll feel more productive and efficient – they’ll get a fresh surge of energy after a break in-between the work timings.

  • Allow Remote Work

In spite of some remote work challenges, the majority of employees believe they’re more productive when they work outside of the office. You can choose positions eligible to work remotely, define availability hours for remote workers, define specific response time, and instruct employees to log their time for productivity reports.

  • Provide Better Employee Training

Training and development help improve employee knowledge, and their work performance as well.

  • You must provide training to the employees regarding work-related tasks that will help them perform their tasks easily.
  • Allow employees to learn at their own pace. Rushing through complicated topics won’t allow new knowledge to stick, or employees to test out their newfound skills. It’s best to leave employees time to process their training or learn at their own pace.
  • Improve Office Communication

In teamwork, good collaboration leads to optimal productivity and efficacy, and good collaboration stems from good communication and feedback.

  • Build teamwork. You and your team must make an effort to become an effective team. You can start this by throwing an office party, initiate an employee outing etc. When new employees arrive, make sure they feel welcome in the workplace, and equal with their new colleagues.
  • Your company may use a communication tool, like email, chat and phone calls for communication, but you’ll need to understand how each employee replies best. Some may reply quickest to email messages, and some are prompt in answering their phones.
